Guenther Koenig approaches the door of the Squadron's Executive Officer. A young sailor sitting at the desk says, "Good morning Kapitan leutant, you may go right in, the Fregattenkapitän is expecting you."
KpLt Koenig enters the office,
"Ah good morning Guenther, the Eisbar, is the first U-Boat from the 15th to be assigned mine laying operations. You will be heading to the port in Dover, where you will be placing your mines in the shipping lanes. Make sure to mark the precise location of where they are, so that after the war is over, any unexploded mines can be retrieved.

Akerman paused for a moment to clear is throat "sir, the crew are wondering when they will receive their war badges. " Ah Wolfgang, I know that the orders were handed out on December 1st, so the crew should have them. I will speak with Fregattenkapitän Gormon and see if I can find where they are. (I must of missed it when I put the ribbons on the boats so I have fixed that now.)

20 February 1940 As he waits for the 15th Flotilla’s XO to receive him, KptLt Viktor Radel silently fumes. No sooner are the hated Prize Rules voided then he finds himself taken out of action for some ‘special mission.’ “Special, indeed!” Viktor tells himself. “All it means is that U-86 won’t have a full patrol of hunting.” Nonetheless, Viktor is too much the German Naval Officer to question orders.
“The FKpt will see you now,” the Helferin sitting behind the desk intrudes on Viktor’s thoughts. Nodding, he raps at the inner office door then enters.
Coming to attention, Viktor delivers the Nazi Party salute as he states, “You wished to see me Herr FKpt?”

"Ah Viktor, good to see you, help yourself" FKpt Edel points at the liqueur cabinet along the back wall, "and have a seat. The R'an is being assigned a special operation, you will be placing mines around the port of London. I know that this can be dangerous, but I feel that your crew can handle the situation. Just make sure to log where they are at. Please get with Leutnant zur See Rothenburg, the ordinance officer, about getting the mines loaded.

Viktor forgoes the drink. "Jawol, Herr FKpt." Viktor salutes and does an about face, hoping he is successful in masking his disappointment at having his hunting opportunities limited. Exiting, Viktor does not look forward to dealing with Jutte's stepson, already resentful that she is not available and still harboring suspicions that the younger Rothenburg is a competitor for her interest.

KpLt Volkhard Schreiber knocks on the door and enters at the request of the XO. ...... Some two hours later he leaves the office, his face as white as a sheet. He talks to nobody on the way to the officer's club and continues his silence all evening, despite the advances of various ladies (loosely put).

FKpt Horst Beckmann enters the office "Thank you for seeing me, Herr Kommodore. As you know Das Gespenst will soon be ready for sea. I would to take the boat to the waters of the Caribbean for our 8th patrol. Thank you for your consideration, Herr Kommodore." "Ah, FKpt Beckmann, an interesting request, especially as the Caribbean is not one of our patrol assignments......at the moment."
"Do you know something that I do not, do you have a crystal ball or are you related to Nostradamus himself?"
"You obviously have contacts higher up to know of this information and we should talk on that subject at great length in the new year.""FKpt, I will see what I can do, but I am under strict instructions that our boats must go where they will do the most for the Kreigsmarine." "Unfortunately, you will be needed elsewhere Horst, a decision made above my rank and obviously that of your contact."
