April 1944U-1181 does not return form her second combat patrol.U-Boat Name and ID Number: U-1181, Seegeist Successful Patrol: No Number of Freighters Sank: 0 Number of Tankers Sank: 0 Number of Capital Ships Sank: 0 Total Tonnage Destroyed: 0 Refit Time: U-Boat sunk Award Requests: WB for entire crew Narrative: The Royal Navy reported an unsuccessful attack on a convoy in U-1181’s patrol area on 12 April 1944. The escorts attacked a presumed U-Boat after two ships in the convoy reported torpedo tracks passing close astern. (One ship reported being hit but the torpedo failing to detonate.) HMS Javelin reported a large oil slick after the initial depth charge attack, the slick persisting through several hours of ASW activity until finally a large amount of debris floated to the surface and contact was lost. There was no further radio contact with U-1181 after 12 April and she did not return from her second combat patrol. From radio intercepts of enemy activity and BDU communication logs Attachment Deleted
