October 3rd With the brisk breeze we left the port of Wilhelmshaven, the weather was nice and calm, as we left the pens.
October 4th-7th Transit was going smoothly
October 8-10th We entered the Atlantic, with no issues.
October 13th 23:45 We saw a convoy as and we had our shot at glory. We spotted 2 large freighters, a small freighter and a tanker. I gave the order to loose tubs 1-4 one eel at each target. Three out of four torpedoes struck their target showing good accuracy by the gunners, however 2 of the three were duds. The 10,300 ton Calchas went to the bottom of the sea. Our dive planes were damaged by the depth charges. Then the destroyer made a second trip around and again the Jägerin was tossed around like a tin can. Our periscope was damaged, and our radio destroyed, and our flak guns took some damage. The HMS Whirlwind, a W Class destroyer was tearing up our poor boat as they dropped on us again, damaging our diesel engine. We managed to escape to lick our wounds as the other three ships went their own way.
October 14th Zimmermann got the drive planes fixed, the periscope repaired, but we lost the radio there was no repairing it. Diesel Engine 1 was completely destroyed, and Zimmermann said we would need a dry dock to fix it, ending our patrol early, and our flak gun was turned to scrap metal.
October 14-18th The sea was empty as we started the trip home.
October 19-21st Still no ships or aircraft as we limped back to port.
October 22nd 9am We sailed into port, with 1 victory flag hanging from the periscope. Repairs will take a little while longer.

October 04/1939 The goal is to patrol the British Isles. AN sector, square 84-41 0700 We left Wilhelmshaven. October 07-08 Advancement to the forefront takes place without incident. October 09 1535 The gyrocompass is out of order. Thanks to the efforts of Lt (Ing) Hartwig Braun, the gyrocompass was repaired; we continue to advance to the patrol site. October 11 We arrived at square AN 84. No enemy was found. October 14 We continue patrolling with a general direction to the north. 0945 Enemy ship detected. Beginning the pursuit 1120 The ship is identified as freighter "Tweed" with a displacement of 2700 tons. I'm decided to attack from the surface of the gun. Having approached at a close distance, we fired two volleys. The shells went straight to the target and quickly sank to the bottom. The first victory of our crew and me as a boat commander. October 18 1825 A group of enemy warships has been discovered. Beginning the pursuit. 1840 HMS CV “Eagle” with a displacement of 21850 tons, was identified in the last rays of the sun. With the onset of night, I begin the pursuit. Covering myself with darkness and bad weather, I try to reach the minimum distance. I come to close range and surface up. I decided to attack with all torpedoes at once, since I may not have a second chance to attack. The first tube starts up the G7E. There is a hit! No explosion. 2 tube G7a. There is a hit! I see an explosion. 3 tube G7a. There is a hit. I see an explosion and flames! 4 tube G7a. Miss. Verdammt! I turn around and attack with stern tubes. 5 tube G7a. There is a hit. The aircraft carrier has a heavy roll to starboard and a heavy fire. 6 tube G7a- my last hope. There is a hit! The fire is intensifying. The aircraft carrier got a nose trim. The escort destroyers broke loose. It's time to leave. The enemy found me in the light of a burning aircraft carrier. Urgent dive! Depth charges dropped. Judging by the hectic actions of the escort, their crew are green. Depth charges exploded far to the side without causing harm. Extreme immersion. Somewhere the light goes out, manometers burst from explosions. Having sunk to a depth greater than the maximum, he stopped both engines. The escort seems to have lost me and is retiring. I can't believe my luck! I wait for a while and move at the smallest speed. I ascend to periscope depth. A burning aircraft carrier and a retreating escort can be seen in the distance. I estimate the damage as minimal.October 21 Moved into square AN 44. No sign of enemy. October 24 Reached the end point of the patrol route. Excellent visibility. Still no one. I'm heading for a return. October 26 Progressing without incident. October 29 I'm getting closer to my native shores. October 30 He entered the harbor of Wilhelmshaven.

October 3, 1939 We left port and proceeded to our objective. Assigned to patrol the waters outside the port of Liverpool.
October 15, 1939 It has been an uneventful trip so far. Arrived at patrol objective at 0654 hours local time.
October 21, 1939 The announcement came that we had picked up a contact to our starboard side. It was the Castor, returning from her latest run. along with a destroyer escort. I ordered for tubes 1 and 2 to be fired from medium range, both fish hit their target. She sank in a matter of minutes. We immediately performed a crash dive, the escort failed to detect us, and we quietly slipped out to sea.
October 27, 1939 Spotted the tanker Davanger and her destroyer escort. Again ordered tubes 1 and two from medium range. Torpedo 1 missed, but torpedo 2 found its mark just aft of the boiler room. Target sank within an hour. Destroyers began pinging, I ordered a crash dive to lower than test depth. Destroyers failed to detect us, damage was minimal.
November 2, 1939 Encountered the Nicolas Pateras. Fired two torpedos from medium range again, 1 hit. Ship was damaged but not sinking. We evaded detection, then followed the contact. Again from medium range, I ordered 2. torpedos to be fired. 1 hit the mark, second appeared to be a dud. Target sank. Ordered to exceed test depth, again evaded detection. Damage minimal
November 8, 1939 No contacts. We assume word has gotten out that the Schwarzer Tod is prowling the waters, and goods are flowing into and out of other ports
November 14, 1939 Again, no contacts. Heading for home.
November 20, 1939 Spotted an aircraft, flak gunner was apparently not fully sober, as he failed to hit it. Flawless crash dive was executed, the aircraft disappeared.
November 26, 1939 Uneventful last 6 days of transit. Arrived home at last. I have ordered to crew to go home and see their families, as we will be in port getting repairs for about 2 months.

Following the nightly brief, Jacob Berger wanders out to the edge of the harbor and lights a cigarette. Berger looks out over the water, and wonders how things have come to this. After years of training, being sent to the "Torpedo Research Center" in Sweden, and now this. It is time to hunt. Berger contemplates those currently in Wilhelmshaven going about their night at the bar, before setting sail, and the men that will be stuck inside the boat with him, and the decisions he will have to make that will put their lives at risk and knowing that if the Fuhrer should require it he would sail his boat into the teeth of the enemy.
October 3rd The Seeteufel left the subpen and maid her maiden voyage of the war. All of the training, all of the blood sweat and tears, now it was our time.
October 10-16 We made a peaceful tansit.
October 22, 1939 - 0915 We spotted a 5,200 ton freighter. With no escort, we prepared the deck gun and gave the crew the order to abandon ship before we opened fire. Once the crew had abandoned, we fired two shots from the deck gun, both of which hit the freighter which began to burn and list but was still afloat, I gave the order to fire once more. Again we hit and the freighter was sent to the bottom of the sea.
October 27, 1939 - 1425 A small freighter was spotted, once again with no escort. I closed to close range and fired the deck guns and a single G7a at the freighter. The torpedo missed, but the 4,900 ton freighter will now rest at the bottom of the sea.
November 2nd, 1939 - 2308 We spotted the Battleship HMS Nelson in front of us. I gave the order to dive to and come in to Medium range, then we loosed tubes 1-4 came about and fired tubes 5 and 6 in rapid succession. Three of our eels went wide. But we had the other three strike, unfortunately two of the three that hit were G7e's and we must have gotten a bad batch as both were duds. But the G7a hit and went off. The Nelson was aflame and taking on water, but that ship was still afloat. Then it was time for evasive maneuvers as the destroyers began their hunt. The hull buckled multiple times, and the hydrophones were knocked out. As the destroyers came about we played dead and evaded detection. The Nelson survived the night, but will be spending time getting repairs done.
Our Hydrophones were repaired quickly and we were back under way.
November 13 1939 0428 A single freighter was spotted, I decided to move to close range and loose tubes 1-4 three of the torpedoes hit, none were duds and the 5200 ton ship quickly went below the waves, her back broken.
November 14-20 1939 A week passes, and no ships were spotted and now it was time to return home.
November 20-26 1939 Transit goes smoothley.
November 30 1939 The Seeteufel comes into view of Wilhelmshaven, three victory banners hanging from the periscope mast.

October 1, 1939, (November for the type IX Boats) Gentleman, From my quick glances at the reports you did well this month, sinking 64,100 tons of shipping, and 9 hulls including one carrier, the HMS Eagle. The first round tonight is on, while the second round will be on the crew of the Seepferdchen, meanwhile the third round for KptLt Siegmund Marguer will be on me, for his receiving the Knights Cross.
