Notes:
1.10.40 - Departed La Spezia with orders to patrol the waters between the Spanish Coast and the Azores, and then sail to BETASOM.
9.10.40 - Crash Dived to evade an RAF Hudson while navigating the Strait of Gibraltar.
2.11.40 03.00 - Intercepted warship CL HMS Naiad. Surface attack from medium range with four 53.3 cm torpedoes, stern shot.
All four torpedoes missed.
Her trained escort conducted a counterattack, damaging our hull, batteries and the #2 electric engine.
I ordered the boat below test depth, but couldn't shake the escort above.
A second wave of depth charges soon made their way into the water, and quickly sank towards our position.
I ordered the boat to evade forward at full speed. Soon, more explosions caused our boat to shake violently. The hull and deck gun took damage.
I ordered the boat even deeper.
The escort maintained contact and launched a third attack. Again, I attempted to evade at full speed ahead. The boat recieved more hull damage and a crew member was lightly injured.
I ordered the boat deeper still.
I was uncertain if her battered hull could withstand the immense pressure...........
Finally, we evaded the enemy and quickly left the area to assess and repair damages.
The batteries were repaired as well as electric engine number 2. Unfortunately, the deck gun remained inoperable.
6.11.40 03.30 - Attacked escorted freighter "Monte Igueldo" 3,500t with four torpedoes from medium range - Submerged position, Stern shot.
All torpedoes missed the target.
We remained undetected and followed the target. We attacked again from periscope depth with four torpedoes from the forward tubes.
We briefly celebrated victory after hearing two extremely loud explosions.
We then quickly and quietly disengaged, undetected by the sinking freighter's escort.
9.11.40 - While underway for BETASOM, The crew gave me a small amulet resembling a Wolf as a good look charm to celebrate our first kill of the war. (RANDOM EVENT 7)
12.11.40 - We were caught off guard by a British aircraft while under way in the Bay of Biscay. My lucky charm seemed to do the trick as we barely escaped with an emergency crash dive. Unfortunately, it was lost overboard as I cleared the conning tower. (First attempt failed. Used "In Bocca al Lupo!" marker. Second attempt was successful.)
14.11.40 09.00 - Sailed into Bordeaux and docked at BETASOM.
